Haussmann’s works were published between 1588 and 1611 and included books of conzonettes, dance songs, and instrumental dances, many based on Polish themes. Through his publications of canzonettes, ballets, and madrigals, he played a decisive role in the dissemination of Italian musical styles in Germany. Texts were added as well to many of his instrumental dances so that human voices could blend with mellow instruments of the string players. The texts were contrived so that women with little training could sing along. His instrumental dances were perhaps the first in Germany to specify the use of specific instruments (violin or cornet) for specific parts. In this collection Gary Olson has taken the Intrada and Galliarda from Neue Intrade mit Sechs und Fümff Stimmen of 1604 and the Paduan from Neue Fümffstimmige Padune und Galliarde auff Instrumenten of 1604.
