MEET THE COMPOSER
Andrew Wolfe
Bass Trombonist, Composer, Arranger
Andy Wolfe is a Colorado-based composer, arranger, and trombonist whose music is deeply rooted in the landscape, spirit, and community of the Rocky Mountain region. His music combines classical training, cinematic flair, and a deep appreciation for brass instruments—and the people who play them. Born and raised in Littleton, Colorado, he earned both his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Trombone Performance from the University of Northern Colorado, where he learned that low notes can, in fact, move mountains.
Wolfe began writing music at a young age, first arranging pieces for a family brass quartet with his siblings David and Julie Wolfe (trumpets) and Jenny Wolfe (horn).
The group performed regularly at church services and assisted-living communities throughout the Denver metro area, proving early on that brass music can be both powerful and warmly received in just about any setting.
Although trained as a classical trombonist, Wolfe has gone on to become a frequently commissioned composer and arranger for ensembles and soloists across the country. His works have been performed nationwide by groups including The Denver Brass, Seven Hills Brass, the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band, the Colorado Pops Orchestra (Olympic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony - 2025), University of Denver Wind Ensemble, Brass Choir, and Faculty Brass Trio, Chestnut Brass Company, Aries Brass Quintet, Triskelion Trio, Bone Structure Trombone Quartet, Rice University Brass Choir, University of Northern Colorado Trombone Choir and Concert Band, Texas A&M University Trombone Ensemble, Denver Municipal Band, Thornton Community Band, Colorado Honor Band Association, West Jefferson Middle School Band and Orchestra, Loveland Chorale Society, Resurrection Christian School, and the Colorado VFW Band.
Wolfe has also composed for film and media, including the 2003 documentary The Golden Stories of Breckenridge: Rest in Peace and music for the Summit Foundation’s 20th Anniversary Celebration video in 2004.
His long-standing collaboration with The Denver Brass has been especially prolific. Wolfe has arranged over 50 works and composed more than 15 original pieces for the ensemble—more than any other single composer—helping to shape the ensemble’s unmistakable sound through an intimate knowledge of its instrumentation and individual performers. In 2012, he was commissioned to arrange the Albinoni Oboe Concerto in D Minor and performed the solo with the ensemble, briefly convincing audiences that the trombone was originally part of the Baroque tradition.
Wolfe’s compositions and arrangements appear on numerous Denver Brass recordings from 2006 to the present, including Brass Bagpipes & Company Live, Epics in Brass – The Denver Brass Live!, Tribute to America’s Heroes, Brass Bagpipes & Company – Siochan!, Wonderful World, Hot Hot Hot, and Brass and Organ: Feel the Sound!, with additional recordings currently in production.
Often cinematic in nature, Wolfe’s music reflects the majesty of the Rocky Mountains, the beauty of Colorado, and the full range of human emotion—from quiet reflection to full-throttle brass fanfare. His works are published through the Denver Brass website and Art of Sound Music, and his catalog continues to grow with chamber works for brass and piano.
Andy Wolfe lives in Evergreen, Colorado, with his family, where the mountains continue to provide inspiration—and excellent acoustics.
