Three Becker Psalms

$22.00

These three selections are taken from a collection of one hundred fifty four-part harmonizations of the Psalms set in rhymed verse by Cornelius Becker. In some, Schütz used a well-known melody (Psalm 46), while other melodies were his own creations. These pieces were composed without bar lines, which creates the metric irregularity so characteristic of this period. Psalm 20, for example, seems to fluctuate between a 3/4 and a 6/8 feel. In an effort to keep meter changes to a minimum, the editor has used tenuto markings to indicate where the points of stress occur.
